Description

This 54 minute DVD, divided into eight chapters, traces the origins and defines the concept of Transcendentalism.  It spotlights key landmarks in and around Concord, where the Transcendental movement began, while profiling Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller in depth through readings, interviews, and dramatizations from significant Transcendentalist texts.  Scholarly commentary is provided by several current experts in this literary field.  Several dramatic passages are reenacted by Jeffry Hyatt as Thoreau at Walden Pond.  (54 minutes, color)
